The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world, and the shoe branch takes responsibility for a portion of it. For the most part, because the product itself is hard to manufacture and recycle due to its many layers of different materials and glues.
This does not only contribute to a destructive manufacturing cycle, but it also limits designer to innovate. The construction and actual design always stay the same and the designer mostly operates as a graphic or “surface” designer. Resulting in a homogeneous market.
On the other hand, the demand for authentic and responsible products is growing. And as a result, the market will no longer be able to meet the intrinsic demand of the consumer.
This collection displays a new approach to shoe design. It is an exploration of innovative materials and production techniques to make the production processes more responsible and give designers more freedom to create unique products.
